The winner of this year’s prestigious Turner Prize is Laure Prouvost.

The announcement was made tonight at a glittering ceremony in The Venue, Derry.

A clearly shocked Laure said “I’m not ready yet, I didn’t expect it. I didn’t think it would be me.”

In emotional scenes Laure’s baby girl was brought on to the stage and was the first to congratulate her.

She added: “I am so touched, I know the public really engaged. I am so happy.

“We will go dancing and we will take the baby.”

She described her fellow artists as “magnificent and incredible.”

Lauren Laverne hosted tonight’s live TV coverage from Derry, where artists Lynette Yiadom-Boakye, Tino Sehgal, Laure Prouvost and David Shrigley competed for one of the world’s most prestigious art prizes.

All of the nominees have had their work displayed at the magnificent Turner Gallery in Derry’s Waterside where it will remain until January 5.
