'˜Letterkenny', but not as we know it

There aren't many Canadians living in Letterkenny.

But say the word ‘Letterkenny’ in Canada and people will think you are talking about the new television sitcom that has critics sitting up and taking notice.

‘Letterkenny’ is a comedy series created by Jared Keeso and Jacob Tierney, that first appeared on the Comedy Network and Crave TV in Canada in February 2016.

Keeso and Tierney’s ‘Letterkenny’ is worlds apart from the busy Donegal town known to so many people from Derry and Inishowen.

The show stars Keeso and Nathan Dales as Wayne and Daryl, two friends living in the small town of Letterkenny, Ontario, a fictional community loosely based on Keeso’s own hometown of Listowel, Ontario.

The content is not for faint hearted and contains many expletives that some may find offensive.

The first series contains only six episodes but last month it was confirmed that ‘Letterkenny’ would start production on a second series in the spring of this year.

Irish born Canadian TV critic, John Doyle, said: “not since ‘Trailer Park Boys’ launched have we heard the flavourful, salty Canadian vernacular used with such aplomb and abandon.”
