Police in Limavady have issued an “urgent notice” via social media regarding what they have described as an “incident of animal cruelty”.

On the Limavady PSNI Facebook page on Thursday, Sgt Ian Hunt said: “A video has been doing the rounds on Facebook in the Limavady area in relation to an incident of animal cruelty. This is a video of an incident that happened in December and was reported to police at the time. We would like to assure everyone that the matter is being dealt with by the relevant authorities.”

The video is understood to involve a small dog, and has since been removed. Police told the ‘Journal’ the matter was referred to them on December 30, and referred to animal welfare on the same day.

The alleged incident has also featured on a Facebook page called ‘Northern Ireland says “NO” to Animal Cruelty’, which has stated they are aware of the video and have made a report to the animal welfare officer.
