Two “tyre”-less Limavady charity workers have revealed their latest fundraiser involving a tractor tyre weighing more than 200kgs.

The men behind the idea are Andy Chapman and Ricky Morrison, who are putting their strength; not just once, but 1,000 times, into the fundraiser for Pretty ‘n’ Pink Breast Cancer charity.

“We’ll flip a 220kg tractor tyre 1,000 times, dressed as pink santas, to raise funds for Pretty ‘n’ Pink,” says Andy, a fitness fanatic used to heavy lifting.

“That’s around 100kg heavier than our combined bodyweights.

“We fancied taking on a physical challenge, something different, and it seemed silly and fun at the same time.”

Cheering the crowd along on the day, with his trusty mic, will be local man, and compere extraordinaire, Peter Jack.

“Peter Jack will be there to try and encourage people to donate, on the last Saturday before Christmas,” explained Andy.

Andy said the idea was triggered by his family.

“My mother and sister are in the middle of a big fundraising drive for three charities and Pretty ‘n’ Pink is one of them.

“I spoke to Ricky - who is my training partner - about helping out. We approached the Roe Valley Arts & Cultural Centre about the venue and they were happy to facilitate it,” said Andy.

To date, the pair have received nothing but positive reaction.

“We both work at the Roe Valley Leisure Centre and people have been donating to our collection bucket at the reception and wishing us luck,” said Andy, adding: “A few people have told us we are mad as well!”

To donate to the pair, peeople can drop by the Leisure Centre and give whatever they can afford into the collection bucket, or come along on December 22, from 9am-2pm.

“We are hoping people will come and support us on the day,” said Andy.

“There will be a festive atmosphere in the town ahead of Christmas, and we want to add a bit of fun to it.

“I would just like to say a massive thanks to everyone who has contributed so far.

“I also have a ‘just giving’ page - http://www.justgiving.com/Andy-Chapman1000 - which is linked through my facebook.”
