The aptly named ‘Corned Beef Tin’ was demolished in Creggan yesterday afternoon.
The building, which has long been synonymous with community life in Creggan since the early 1970s, will be rebuilt on the existing site.
It is expected that the new building will be open to the public in August 2014.
“It’s the end of an era but it’s certainly the beginning of brighter one for the Creggan area,” Creggan Neighbourhood Partnership worker, Kevin Campbell.
The project is funded by the Department for Social Development and Derry City Council.
