A multicultural fundraising evening is to be held at Derry’s Beach Country Hill House this weekend in support of the Philippines Typhoon Appeal.

Organised by the Filipino Locals Action Group, the fundraiser will run from 4-9pm on Saturday.

Conor Donnelly, Sales Manager at the Beech Hill Country House Hotel, said: “Typhoon Haiyan left a trail of destruction across the Philippines and Red Cross staff and volunteers have been working tirelessly in their efforts to help thousands of people rebuild their lives.

“The Filipino Locals Action Group wanted to give something back to the people suffering in their homeland by supporting the Red Cross and I would encourage anyone to come along and support this worthwhile cause.”

The entertainment will include Flamenco dancing, Japanese drumming alongside traditional Filipino music and dance. There will also be a display of trinkets, objects and national costumes from the Philippines.

The money raised will go to the Red Cross and their efforts to provide much needed aid to the Philippines.

It will contribute to the ongoing need for emergency shelter, clean water and food as well as helping survivors rebuild their lives.

A spokesperson for the Filipino Locals Action Group, said: “Our special multi-cultural event will aim to raise funds by celebrating the cultural diversity of our local community through music, dance, storytelling and food.”

“It will also provide local people with an ideal opportunity to learn about the Philippines and the people who live there, as well as bringing the Filipino community in Northern Ireland together for a worthwhile cause to enjoy a taste of their homeland.

Tickets are priced at Adults £10, Children (aged between 5 -10) £5 with children under 5 free of charge.
