Republicans in Derry marked the 25th anniversary of the murder of Belfast solicitor Pat Finucane and called for a public inquiry into the case.

Sinn Féin representatives and activists held a vigil to mark the anniversary of the murder, which was carried out by the UDA. The solicitor’s family and supporters have always insisted the security forces colluded in his murder,

Creggan colr. Kevin Campbell said the British government needs to honour its commitment on an inquiry into the murder.

“We felt it was very important to mark the 25th anniversary of the murder of solicitor Pat Finucane,” he said. “The Pat Finucane Inquiry is now the only Inquiry agreed to at Weston Park talks that has not been held, we need to increase the lobby, including internationally, on the British government to honour its commitments and establish the promised public inquiry into Pats murder.

“Just a few weeks ago MEP Martina Anderson took a 30 strong delegation from across Ireland to the European Parliament to present first hand experiences of British State Collusion in the murders of citizens in Ireland. Families of collusion are not asking for favours, they are requiring the British State to discharge its legal obligation under EU articles and international law

“The Finucane family have shown incredible strength and perseverance in their fight to uncover the truth behind Pat’s assassination,” he said.
