Jail warning for disorderly woman

A woman who became disorderly after calling police to report an assault has received a suspended jail term.

Sheree Elizabeth Ann Murphy, whose address was given on court papers as Long Commons, Coleraine, pleaded guilty to disorderly behaviour on July 20, last year.

Derry Magistrate’s Court heard police were called to Edenmore Street and when they arrived the 25-year-old was lying on the ground with blood on her hands.

She made an allegation she had been assaulted by her ex-partner and the 25-year-old began to shout and swear.

The court heard Murphy refused to moderate her behaviour and was arrested. No formal statements were made about the assault allegations.

Defence solicitor Paddy MacDermott said the abuse was directed towards Murphy’s ex-partner and not police. He added the 25-year-old was upset and angry at the time.

Murphy was warned by District Judge Barney McElholm if she came back to court she would be going to prison.
