A Donegal councillor has called for an investigation after a PSNI landrover crossed the border into Lifford.
The PSNI vehicle was pictured at the Lifford roundabout on Wednesday morning.
The PSNI said the patrol inadvertently crossed the border and turned at the earliest opportunity.
“A police patrol inadvertently crossed the border into Lifford today for a short time. On realising his error the driver turned at the next available roundabout.”
The PSNI spokesperson said police have made An Garda Siochána aware of the incident.
But councillor Frank Mc Brearty said the incident should be fully investigated. He described it as an “international incident.”
“I am calling for an investigation into why they entered our jurisdiction especially with the threat from dissidents,” said Cllr McBrearty.
“This is an international incident and should be fully investigated. What would of happened if dissidents had of opened fire on the PSNI in broad daylight in Lifford where citizens of our country are going about their daily business.?
“This unprofessional behaviour cannot be tolerated by our State,” he said
