Revellers caught short in Limavady could literally have a brush with the law under a new initiative by the local PSNI.
In line with their speedy justice policy, police in the Co. Derry town have been giving some discretionary disposals to people found urinating in the street for the first time.
As a pilot over the Christmas period police have provided a drum with water/washing up liquid and a brush. When circumstances allow, people found urinating in public will be given the option to clean it up. If they are too intoxicated, police will arrange to meet them on another date to do so.
Police are allowed to use discretionary disposals as an alternative way of dealing with low level crime.
