Plans to build 14 social housing apartments at Derry’s Bayview Terrace have been welcomed.
SDLP representative Rory Farrell - who is to stand in the Northland ward at next year’s council elections - said the Fold Housing Association plans is “welcome news” at a time when more than 3,000 people are waiting to be housed in the city.
The apartments are to be built on a vacant site. A public consultation was held in the city last Thursday.
“It is good news for our ailing construction industry and it is also good news for families of the housing waiting list,” Mr Farrell said.
“With over 3,000 people on the waiting list, we need more proposals like this to combat the growing housing crisis in Derry.
“The development will also bring a vacant city centre site back to life, which will improve the image of our city to visitors.
“The consultation event was a worthwhile exercise as it gave residents an opportunity to view plans for the development and to raise any queries they had,” he said.
