Demolition work has begun at the former St Peter’s High School building in Creggan.
Bulldozers and heavy machinery moved onto the site of the former school building at Southway this morning to begin the demolition process.
The school shut last year and has been the target for vandals on a number of occasions since then.
Creggan Sinn Féin Councillor Kevin Campbell, who was involved in securing the demolition, welcomed the move.
“I welcome the news that the day has finally arrived for starting the process of the demolition of St Peter’s School at Southway. It will start with and internal clear out of the main building before heavy machinery is brought in for the full demolition of the buildings.
“I will keep residents fully informed at each stage of the process,” he added.
