Rush Hall Care Home in Limavady

Two investigations have been launched into allegations of abuse of elderly residents at two local care homes, the Journal has learned.

Six staff in Rush Hall Care Home in Limavady have been suspended while an investigation is ongoing. At Greenhaw Lodge in Derry a staff member is suspended while an investigation is underway - and “a small number” of others have recently concluded.

The investigations came to light after a caller contacted the ‘Journal’ to voice his concerns about the treatment of residents at one of the care homes. The caller claimed that one suspension related to an alleged incident of violence towards a resident while another related to the treatment of a resident with dementia.

One of the bodies involved in the investigation is the Western Trust. They said that while they do not own or operate the private care homes, they are working with other organisations, including the regulators RQIA, the PSNI and both care home providers, to investigate the claims.

Owners of both homes say they are co-operating fully. Four Seasons Health Care own Rush Hall Care Home. Care Circle have just recently taken over ownership of Greenhaw Lodge.

“The welfare and wellbeing of our residents is our priority,” a spokesperson for Rush Hall said.

A spokesperson for Care Circle said: “The company takes any allegation extremely seriously.”
