Wedding photos are such a vital part of any bride’s big day however, if you have a winter wedding in Derry you’ll need to be creative.

And this is the Derry teacher who decided to embrace fun when her photographer brought her wedding party to Brunswick MovieBowl.

It was a blustery and wet day on December 27 for Laura Doherty and Brendan Daly’s Christmas wedding.

“The weather was terrible” says Laura, 26. “But in typical Derry spirit we coped with it and got on with it!”

When it came to photographing her day, Laura wanted to reflect her fun personality.

“I’m sure every couple have different priorities for their wedding but we really wanted to find a great photographer – someone fun and up for the craic! We found exactly this when we met Jay Doherty.

“The work he showed us was amazing. We can’t wait to see our album, we will treasure this and there will be plenty of stories to tell as we look through it.

“We hadn’t really made a plan for photos we were happy to go with the flow. Jay suggested going to Brunswick MovieBowl. I wasn’t quite sure at first but it was the best decision ever. Jay went ahead of us and asked the manager of the Bowling Alley if we could come in for a few photographs and the service we received was second to none. From having personalised bowling lanes with ‘bride’ and ‘groom,’ free popcorn and Christmas hats they really did pull out all the stops. The staff were extremely welcoming and friendly and we will never forget their hospitality.

“I went back last week for a birthday and I felt so underdressed without my wedding dress on!

“My husband Brendan then got his creative side on and asked could I go inside the minions teddy bear machine and he pretend to catch me with the claw! I don’t think Jay thought we were serious but the next minute I was inside the glass. It turned out such a fun photo and one we will always treasure.”

This particular photo has been enjoying fame online with hundreds of likes on facebook.

“Planning in between a PGCE course and then teaching was quite hectic but I loved every minute of it. When we got engaged and started looking around hotels they were decorated for Christmas and had a lovely warm feeling. From then we had always wanted a Christmas wedding – I would highly recommend it to any bride to be!”

Despite the weather, Laura says: “This might sound like a cliché but it really was the most perfect day, much more fun than I thought it would be. The day went so fast, I would love to do it all over again.”
