A local community worker who was named as a ‘Justice Champion’ last year met with Justice Minister, David Ford, when he visited Derry on Wednesday.

Geraldine Doherty from the Top of the Hill received the accolade of ‘Justice Champion’ at the Justice in the Community Awards towards the end of 2014.

Geraldine also picked up £500 to invest in community projects at the Parliament Buildings awards ceremony.

Geraldine Doherty has been working tirelessly for her community for over 20 years, actively committed to building relationships at interface areas within the Top of the Hill community. She has been instrumental in bringing about a decrease in interface trouble over the past few years.

“The Justice in the Community Awards give me the opportunity to highlight this exceptional work that we tend to hear so little about,” said Minister Ford.

“It is also pleasing to see that the proceeds from assets seized from the hands of criminals have been returned to our community through these awards and is being put to good use.”
