£10k cocaine haul in Derry

Police in Derry have seized suspected cocaine with an estimated street value of £10,000.

The PSNI said the seizure followed planned searches yesterday evening in the Kilfennan area of the Waterside.

“Police seized a substantial quantity of suspected cocaine at an estimated value of £10,000. The items have been sent for forensic examination,” a spokesperson said.

Detective Chief Inspector, Mark McClarence said: “Last week we seized £800,000 worth of drugs and £5,000 worth of drugs in separate seizures. This week we have recovered a substantial quantity of drugs believed to be cocaine. This clearly shows our determination and commitment to tackle the issue of drugs and keep our communities safer.”

The PSNI is coming under increasing public pressure to tackle the problem of illegal drugs amid a recent upsurge in attacks carried out in the Derry-Donegal area by the vigilante group, Republican Action Against Drugs.
