£20k cocaine seizure at Coolessan

Drug dealers should be hauled before the courts and given stiff prison sentences, the chair of Limavady's District Policing Partnership has said following a £20,000 seizure of cocaine in the town.

Police recovered the drugs from a house in the Coolessan Walk area in the past week. A 42-year-old woman and a 20-year-old man were arrested, but have been released pending further enquiries.

Chair of Limavady District Policing Partnership Brenda Chivers called on anyone with information about dealers to report it.

“It continues to be a scourge on our society and we can never become complacent, “ said Colr. Chivers.

“The people who deal in drugs are friends of no-one and should be brought before the courts and given long-term custodial sentences. To do that we all need to work together to tackle this blight on our communities and to keep our eyes open for the unusual and to ‘hear it, see it, report it’.”

Limavady Inspector Tony Callaghan agreed people with information about drug dealers need to pass it on to the police. “If information is not passed to the police, drug dealers will continue to ruin the lives of people already caught up in this terrible addiction and potentially put the lives of many others at risk.

“Tell us what vehicles they are using, who they are associating with and where we can find them.”

Police also seized 17g of amphetamine along with a quantity of ecstasy tablets when a vehicle was stopped in Ballykelly recently.

In the past week alone, there have been a total of five drug-related arrests including two men aged 24 and 49 and a 56-year-old woman.
