£750K to refurbish site for new Irish school

Sinn Féin East Derry MLA Cathal Ó hOisín has welcomed the approval of refurbishment work on the new site for Gaelscoil Neachtain in Dungiven.

Mr Ó hOisín said: “I welcoming the announcement of £750k to upgrade the former controlled primary school in Dungiven to convert it into
a modern facility for the provision of Irish
medium education through Gaelscoil Neachtain.

“More and more parents are choosing to have their children educated through the medium of Irish and this new school will give parents in the Dungiven area a high-quality Irish medium school on their doorstep.

“I would now call on the Education Board to begin these works immediately so that the school to be ready for pupils at the beginning of the next school year. This refurbishment will also provide much-needed work for the local construction industry.

“As an Irish language speaker myself I understand the need for the provision of Irish medium schools and I would congratulate the parents who have successfully campaigned to turn what was a derelict site into a modern school that will service the entire community.”
