Additional Masses and services for Lent
Lent begins tomorrow and extra Masses and special Lenten services will be held in churches across the city for the next six weeks.
An additional Mass will be said in St Eugene’s Cathedral each weekday afternoon from Wednesday at 12.30pm and Solemn Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament will take place each morning following the 10am Mass.
A session of scripture reflection and prayer, led by Fr Kieran Devlin, will begin on Monday February 27 and continue each Monday evening during Lent at 8pm in the upstairs room of the sacristy area of the Cathedral.
Stations of the Cross will be held each Friday after the 7.30pm Mass.
The Cathedral parish is also inviting families to sign up to pray the Rosary each day during Lent and a parishioners have been invited to write down what they are doing for Lent in a Community Book of Prayer.
An extra daily Mass has also been organised for St Columb’s Church, Chapel Road, at 7.45am during Lent. A prayer booklet, ‘Walk With Me,’ and Trocaire boxes are also available from all churches in the parish.
In St Columba’s Church, Long Tower, the Stations of the Cross will take place immediately after the Tuesday and Thursday evening Masses. Benediction will also be held every Sunday evening during Lent at 6.30pm. Parishoners are also being asked to sign up to take part in a family Rosary initiative.
In St Mary’s Church, Creggan, a special Lenten Mass will be offered each morning at 7am.
In the parish of the Three Patrons a Lenten Mass will be celebrated each morning in St Patrick’s. Pennyburn at 7.30am.
A series of Lenten reflections and lectures will also be held in the Thornhill Centre during Lent each Thursday from 10.30am to 1pm. For more information contact 71351273.
