Apostolic Nuncio to visit Derry
The Apostolic Nuncio to Ireland, His Excellency Archbishop Charles J Brown, will pay his first visit to Derry this weekend to take part in a Diocesan conference to mark the beginning of the Catholic Church’s Year of Faith.
The Year of Faith will be launched by Pope Benedict XVI in Rome on Thursday, marking the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council.
The Derry conference, entitled ‘The Door of Faith is Open,’ will be held in Thornhill College on Saturday and will be attended by many priests and religious from the Derry diocese.
Diocesan Administrator Monsignor Eamon Martin said he is looking forward to the Apostolic Nuncio’s visit. “It is a great honour for us to welcome His Excellency Archbishop Brown to Derry. Since his arrival in January he has shown a great interest in getting to know as much as possible about the Church in Ireland. At the Derry Conference on Saturday we hope to discuss openly and honestly new ways of handing on the faith and how people can rediscover and renew their relationship with Jesus and the Church.”
Other key speakers at the conference will be former Police Ombudsman Nuala O’Loan and chairperson of the Catholic Schools Partnership, Fr Michael Drumm.
Monsignor Martin also invited those who wish to attend the Year of Faith Conference in Thornhill on Saturday to make contact with the Diocesan Catechetical Centre (02871 264087; ddcc@derrydiocese.org) for details of booking.
