The two Derry groups in the final of the National Lottery’s Good Causes Awards have thanked the public for their support and have appealed for more votes.

Eglinton-based Achieving Something Special and the Bogside and Brandywell Health Forum are the only two groups from the North who have made it through to the finals of the televised competition.

A film in support of Achieving Something Special’s campaign was broadcast the National Lottery show on Saturday evening and the group said it generated a great response.

Anne Marie Donnelly of Achieving Something Special said; “As soon as it was on tv people were texting and going on Facebook saying how good it was so the feedback has been great. It’s fantastic to get exposure like that on Saturday night primetime tv and it is great for people who would not be familiar with voting online to get information about voting by telephone.

“We’d like to thank everyone who voted and encouraging others to keep voting,” she said.

Meanwhile, Derry City star Kevin Deery has given his support to the Bogside and Brandywell Health Forum’s campaign and has encouraged others to get voting for both north west projects.

The Brandwell star visited staff at the Gasyard Centre to see at first hand the work they do to promote health in the area.
