Armed robbery terror for shop worker

A female shop worker has been threatened and money stolen during an armed robbery in Derry.

Police say the robbery took place at business premises in Carlisle Road last night (February 20).

“At approximately 8.30pm, it was reported that a man carrying a hammer entered a shop in the area and threatened a female staff member while the second man remained at the door of the premises,” a PSNI spokesman says.

“It is believed that a sum of money was taken during the incident. The female member of staff was left badly shaken, but not injured. One of the men is described as being approximately 5’10” tall, of slim build wearing blue bottoms, blue jacket and a grey top.

Detectives would ask anyone who has noticed anything suspicious in the area to contact CID at Strand Road on 0845 600 8000. Or, if someone would prefer to provide their information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.
