Drink driver flipped car

A man who was drink driving when he flipped his car has been disqualified for a year.

Aaron Gary Moore, of Leafair Park, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol, no test certificate and failing to report an accident on March 11.

Derry Magistrates Court heard that police saw the 20-year-old’s car lying on its roof on a grass verge on the Glengalliagh Road.

The lights were on, the radio was playing music and one trainer was found inside the car.

It was revealed to the court there were tyre marks for about 40 metres along the road.

Officers traced the car to Moore and when they went to his home he was drunk and there was fresh blood on the door and floor.

Police also found the matching trainer in the 20-year-old’s home.

He was arrested and denied that he had been driving the car, however claimed that no one else had access to the keys.

A breath test showed there was 88mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath.

Defence solicitor Paddy MacDermott told the court his client had been out for the night and had “no intention of driving the car”.

He added Moore went a short distance before crashing the car and it has now been scrapped.

Disqualifying the 20-year-old, Deputy District Judge Austin Kennedy also fined him £475.
