Drunk driver who drove his cousin’s car disqualified

A man who drove his cousin’s car while drunk has been disqualified from driving and fined at the local magistrates court.

Blaine Costello, of Distillery Close, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol, taking a car without consent and having no licence or insurance on September 23, last year.

Derry Magistrates Court heard police stopped the car the 25-year-old was driving for a minor road traffic violation. Officers spoke to Costello and he admitted that he took his cousin’s car without permission after drinking five cans of beer.

A breath test was carried out which gave a reading of 40mg in breath, while a blood sample gave a reading of 87mg of alcohol.

Disqualifying Costello for 12 months, District Judge Barney McElholm fined him a total of £400.
