IT student had child porn images

An IT student in Derry has pleaded guilty to possessing indecent images of children.

Brendan Murphy (23), from Meadowlands Avenue in Warrenpoint, Co Down, admitted 22 charges of possessing the indecent images of children when he appeared at Derry Crown Court on Tuesday.

The IT student at the Magee campus of the University of Ulster also pleaded guilty to one further charge of possessing an extreme pornographic image. The offences took place between December 2009 and March 2010.

Murphy was automatically placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register after admitting the offences. The duration of time he spends on the register is to be determined when he is sentenced.

He was given bail but ordered not to access the internet unless supervised by police. He was also ordered not to “access, possess, borrow or hold any computer” unless supervised by police.

Murphy was released on continuing bail to appear at Derry Crown Court for sentencing on December 11.
