Man accused of rioting

A man is to stand trial at the city’s Crown Court accused of making and throwing petrol bombs.

Caolan Kavanagh, whose address was given on court papers as c/o HMP Maghaberry, is charged with a total of 20 offences relating to alleged incidents during last year’s Apprentice Boys’ Parade,

They include riotous behaviour, attempted grievous bodily harm with intent, causing scorch damage to the bastion and city walls and attempting to damage the Memorial Hall.

The offences allegedly occurred between July 12 and 13, 2011.

During an appearance at Derry Magistrates Court, the 23-year-old declined to say anything in answer to the charges or to call any evidence.

He was remanded in custody and will appear in the Crown Court on September 20.
