Man admits ‘acting like an animal’

A man put a clothes line round his girlfriend’s neck and threatened to throw her down stairs, a court has heard.

Greg Deyzel Logue, whose address was given on court papers as Duddy’s Court, pleaded guilty to common assault, threats to kill and possession of a pen knife.

The 32-year-old also admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm and attempted grievous bodily harm with intent on July 13, 2011. Derry Crown Court heard that during the incident Logue struck the woman with a bottle of vodka and threatened to kill her and her friend.

It was revealed that as the former couple walked through an area of the Waterside, Logue punched her and hit her head off a tree. He also brandished a pen knife and threatened to kill her. The court heard the incident continued when they got to the victim’s house. The 32-year-old kicked the woman in the face as she sat on the toilet and continued to kick and punch her as she made her way into her bedroom.

Logue also smashed a TV set over the victims head before putting the clothes line around her neck and threatening to throw her downstairs. The court was told the woman sustained “quite significant facial injuries” during the incident and it was revealed Logue has a previous conviction for assaulting the woman.

Defence counsel Brian McCartney QC said Logue and the injured party had had a “tempestuous relationship extending over a number of years”. He said their relationship was “volatile and destructive” and “alcohol and drug abuse was a factor in its demise”.Mr McCartney said on this night the 32-year-old’s “behaviour spiralled out of control” and he accepts he “acted like an animal”.

Judge Piers Grant adjourned sentencing until next week and Logue was remanded in custody.
