Man admits rioting

A 26-year-old man has admitted rioting following last year’s Apprentice Boys parade in the city.

Brian Paul Lynch, of Crawford Square, admitted further charges of aggravated vehicle taking, and aiding and abetting possession of a petrol bomb.

A further charge of intentionally encouraging rioting was “left on the books” by the prosecution.

The charges relate to incidents in the Bogside and Lecky Road areas of the city on August 13, last year.

Derry Crown Court Judge Piers Grant adjourned sentencing for a probation pre-sentence report to be compiled.

A co-accused Simon James Whiteman, of O’Casey Court, pleaded guilty to a total of ten offences at a court hearing last week.

They included throwing a petrol bomb, possessing a petrol bomb, attempted criminal damage and aggravated vehicle taking.

An eleventh charge of arson faced by 27-year-old Whiteman, was also “left on the books” by the prosecution.

Whiteman was remanded in custody and Lynch was released on continuing bail to appear in court again on October 23.
