Man to stand trial for possessing explosives

A Creggan man is to stand trial at Belfast Crown Court accused of possessing explosives.

Joseph Hugh Allen, of Broadway, is charged with possessing a pipe bomb type inprovised explosive device and small arms propellant with intent to endanger life.

The 29-year-old is further charged with possession of explosives in suspicious circumstances.

It is alleged the offences were committed between November 1, 2007 and September 15, 2011.

Defence counsel Nicola Coulter accepted there was a case for her client to answer, who declined to say anything in answer to the charges.

Allen was remanded in custody and will appear in court again at a later date.
