A 32-year-old Waterside man is to stand trial at Derry Crown Court accused of murdering his uncle.

James Anthony Healey, of Hollymount Park, is charged with the murder of James Christopher McGaughey on October 30, last year.

He is further accused of possessing a baseball bat and herbal cannabis on the same date.

During a hearing at the local magistrate’s court today, Healey declined to say anything in answer to the charge or to call any evidence on his own behalf.

When asked by the clerk of the court the 32-year-old replied “no”.

Defence counsel Gavin Kearns accepted there is a case for his client to answer.

Healey was remanded in custody and will appear at the crown court for arraignment on December 6
