Pair returned for trial on couple assault charges

Two people have been returned for trial to the city’s Crown Court on charges relating to the assault of a couple outside their home in the city in June of last year.

Jonathan Joseph Anthony McCusker, whose address was given as Blackstaff Mews, Belfast and a youth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, both face charges in relation to the incident which is alleged to have occurred on June 20 2012.

The youth faces one charge of assault and McCusker faces three common assault charges and one charge of assault occasioning grievous bodily harm.

A representative of the Public Prosecution Service said it was his submission that there was a case to answer.

When asked if they wanted to call any witnesses or make any statement in relation to the charges at this time both defendants replied that they did not.

The pair were released on bail to appear at the city’s Crown Court on April 11 for arraignment.
