Stole £200 of alcohol

A woman who stole over £200 worth of alcohol from a local supermarket has received a suspended jail term.

Ursula Louise Logue, with an address in Wales, pleaded guilty to stealing £211 worth of alcohol from Sainsburys on March 29, last year and going equipped for theft with a foil lined bag.

The 28-year-old also admitted permitting no insurance and no driving licence on June 6, last year.

Derry Magistrates Court heard she was caught in the car park of the supermarket with the alcohol and all of the items were fit to be resold.

Defence solicitor Maeliosa Barr said his client had developed a gambling problem at the time the offences were committed and was in a relationship with a man well known to the court.

He said she has “now seen sense” and wants to create a better life for her and her children.

Suspending a nine month jail term for three years, District Judge Barney McElholm fined Logue £250.
