Teen (16) accused of creeper burglaries

A teenager has appeared in court accused of a number of creeper burglaries in the Waterside area of the city.

The 16-year-old, who cannot be named because of his age, faces three charges of burglary with intent to steal, burglary, and possession of a class A drug.

He is further charged with interfering with a car, driving whilst disqualified and having no insurance.

The offences were allegedly committed between October 6 and October 13.

Derry Magistrate’s Court heard allegations the teen attempted to sell a car stolen from a house in the Clearwater area at a local scrapyard.

An officer told the court that during interview the teen made admissions to going to the Clooney Road area to steal items to get money for drink and drugs.

Defence solicitor Edward Casey told the court his client was not the “ringleader” and urged the court to release the teen on bail. The 16-year-old was released on bail, ordered to abide by a curfew and to be electronically tagged to appear in court again on November 20.
