Thief identified in ‘Journal’

A teenager who was connected to a theft after his photograph appeared in the ‘Derry Journal’ has received a suspended jail term.

David Nixon, of Kinsale Park, pleaded guilty to stealing 24 cans of lager worth £13.94 from Tesco on September 26, 2009.

Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley said the 19-year-old has been a “regular and consistent offender” since 2010 but has managed to stay out of trouble since he was released from custody in June.

Deputy District Judge Terence Dunlop suspended a two month jail term for three years.
