Was unhappy about the price of his takeaway

A man who attempted to pull a delivery driver from his car because he was unhappy about the price of his Chinese takeaway has been jailed for two months.

Graham Monaghan, of Clonmeen Drive, Strathfoyle, pleaded guilty to common assault on July 7.

He also admitted disorderly behaviour in a local police station on November 8.

The local magistrates court heard the 40-year-old followed the delivery man from his house, shouting at him and offering to fight.

He then took off his socks and threw them at the car before attempting to pull the injured party from the car.

It was revealed the man’s foot slipped on the clutch as he was being pulled from the car and he knocked Monaghan down during the incident.

The court heard that the 40-year-old was arrested a short time later, however an arrest warrant was issued for him when he failed to appear in court.

On Thursday, the court was told Monaghan went to the police station to hand himself in but became aggressive and abusive.

He was further arrested for disorderly behaviour.

Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley said that during the first incident his client “ended up both sock less and injured to some extent because of the accident”.

He told the court that alcohol played a part in both the offences and Monaghan has an “acute” problem with alcohol.
