Arson anger

Dissident republicans have been blamed for burning three vans belonging to a Derry firm as a result of a dispute over the removal of graffiti from the city walls.
Two vans from local firm Omega were burned in separate attacks in the city on Saturday night and a third was destroyed on Sunday evening.
The vans were burned at Dove Gardens in the Bogside, Corrib Court in Ballymagroarty and Tranarossan Park in Foyle Springs. A car parked close to the van which was attacked in Tranarossan Park was also damaged.
Workers from the firm, which carries out maintenance work on social housing throughout the city, had been employed to remove graffiti in support of dissident republicans from the Derry Walls on Saturday morning when they were threatened.
The graffiti referred to the death of former IRA prisoner Delours Price, who died on Saturday, and also said ‘UK No Way - IRA.’ Similar graffiti was daubed on walls throughout the Bogside area.
The threats against the workers and the arson attacks on the vans have caused anger locally and have been widely condemned by local politicians as well as the city’s business and community leaders.
A spokesperson for the 32 County Sovereignty Movement has claimed that no threats exist against any Omega staff.
