Police in Derry searching for a ‘vulnerable’ missing woman have confirmed that her personal belongings were found on the Foyle Bridge yesterday morning.

The body of a young woman was recovered from the River Foyle yesterday afternoon and searches are continuing for a young man who is also missing.

A PSNI spokeswoman said: “Police began a missing person search on Thursday morning after personal belongings were found on the Foyle Bridge. Enquiries led police to believe that a 21 year-old woman, Alexandra O’Brien, had recently travelled to the city from the Republic of Ireland and was last seen at a local hotel.

“Further information came to light to suggest that Alexandra was in the company of a friend, 18 year-old Kieran McKeon. Kieran is described as being approximately 5’6” tall, of slim build, with long brown hair covering his face. It is believed he was last seen wearing a dark hooded top and grey tracksuit bottoms.

“On Thursday afternoon the body of a woman was recovered from the River Foyle. At this stage police are continuing their search for Kieran and would appeal for anyone with information to contact them on 0845 600 8000.”
