British-Irish politicians meet in Donegal
It was under a heavy cloud filled sky and behind heavy security that politicians from all parts of Ireland and Britain came together at the picturesque Solis Lough Eske Castle near Donegal Town yesterday to discuss the best method for all countries to tackle the recent economic situation.
Tnaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Mary Coughlan sat at the top table with Donegal North East Fianna Fail TD, Niall Blaney who arranged the meeting and who is also co-chairman of the British-Irish Parliamentary Assembly.
An Tnaiste suggested that the best way to deal with the current economic situation is by using innovative fresh ideas combined with training. She outlined the continuing problems that are arising from people who are trying to find a method of getting around the system rather than using their energies in contributing to them.
She addressed the question of infrastructure in the county stating that there would be a continuation of the work on the Ballyshannon roadworks down to Enniskillen. She also insisted that small, medium enterprises (SMEs) are the way forward.
During yesterday’s talks, there was widespread condemnation of the recent killings in the north. Deputy Blaney also noted how during the current economic climate, the talks in Donegal Town afforded politicians from all areas the chance to ome together and take part in the keynote discussions. The talks will conclude today.
