Bulky lift next week in Triax area
Residents in the Bogside, Brandywell, Bishop Street and Creggan areas will have the opportunity to get rid of their festive rubbish and bulky household items over the next week.
The bulky lift scheme has been organised by the Triax Neighbourhood Management Team in conjunction with Derry City Council and will operate across the area from 10am to 2pm each day.
All refuse should be bagged and larger items such as cookers, etc, should be labelled for collection and brought to a point where they can be loaded onto a lorry, eg. entrances to mews lanes. All material should be left out for collection before 10am.
The community clean up will begin on Monday in the upper Bogside area from Stanley’s Walk to Lisfannon Park. On Tuesday it will take place in the lower Bogside area from Fahan Street to Brewster’s Close. Wednesday’s clean up will include the Brandywell, Lone Moor Road and Ardfoyle areas. Thursday will include the greater Bishop Street area and Friday will take in the Fountain and Foyle Road areas.
The bulky lift scheme will be rolled out across the Creggan area the following week and houses in the estate will receive leaflets about the local arrangements.
Colm Barton from Triax encouraged people to avail of the opportunity. “This provides a fantastic opportunity now that Christmas is over to get rid of that excess rubbish and begin the new year with a fresh start.
“This would not be possible without the excellent work of James McIvor at Derry City Council and we would like to thank him for that. I would also like to remind people that the Council provide a free collection service by appointment for bulky items throughout the year,” he said.
Creggan Sinn Féin councillor Kevin Campbell also encouraged people to recycle their Christmas rubbish. “We all have a responsibility to protect and conserve the environment, and everyone can do their bit by recycling rubbish rather than throwing everything in their black bin,” he said.
