Burglaries at Caravan parks

Inishowen caravans owners have been advised to update their security following a recent rise in burglaries.

Donegal County Councillor, Bernard McGuinness, called on those who own caravans in Inishowen parks to improve security following a spate of burglaries over the weekend.

The ‘Journal’ understands that break ins occurred at caravan parks in Culdaff and Malin Head.

Councillor McGuinness, Fine Gael said: “I utter condemn these attacks.

“The caravan parks are an important part of the local economy. Obviously we need to increase community awareness and look out for the property of those who visit every year.

“I would urge those with caravans in the area to visit more often and to increase their security.

“Perhaps they could operate a rota as many holiday home owners come not only from Derry but from Belfast.”

The latest crimes follow on from the closure of the Culdaff and Malin Garda stations.

Colr. McGuinness said: “I will be making representations to the minister to appoint more community Garda. I will also be urging Deputy Joe McHugh to do the same.”

The ‘Journal’ contacted An Garda Siochana for a comment but they hadn’t responded by the time of going to press.
