Call for action on Lowry’s Lane trees

Sinn Féin councillor Barney O’Hagan has called on Roads Service to take action to prune large trees in the Foyle Springs area of the city.
Colr. O’Hagan said he was contacted by residents from Belfield Park who are concerned about trees on Lowry’s Lane which they claim are blocking light from their homes.
The Northland colr. visited the area to meet with residents to discuss their concerns.
“I have been contacted by residents of Belfield Park in Foyle Springs expressing concern about the state of trees overhanging their properties from Lowry’s Lane.
“Lowry’s Lane is one of the most ancient right of ways in the area, identified as a way of passage from Derry to Donegal for centuries.
“Unfortunately in recent years trees and hedgerows in the Lane have been allowed to grow out of control,” he said.
Colr. Page also said residents are concerned about the possibility of the trees being damaged during high winds and branches falling on their homes.
“I share the concerns of the residents who fear that besides the overgrowth restricting daylight to their homes that there is a danger of breaking branches falling on their properties causing damage or even injuries to individuals,” he explained.
The Sinn Féin colr. said he has arranged for officials from Roads Service to visit the area and meet with local residents.
“I am calling on Road Service to act immediately to remedy the situation. I have already facilitated a site meeting with some of the residents and Road Service to assess the situation and the will be working with the residents and relevant agencies to have the situation resolved,” he said.
