Sinn Féin Councillor Paul Fleming has called for more play facilities for the Strathfoyle area of the city.

Colr. Fleming made the call ahead of a meeting of Derry City Council’s environmental services committee on Thursday where the matter will be discussed.

“From discussions with residents in the area it is apparent that there is a lack of readily accessible play facilities for young children and teenagers. Many families have to leave Strathfoyle to go to other parts of the city so that their children can make use of play parks and associated facilities.

“This is extremely costly for many parents who don’t have a car and who would have to take several buses to get about the city. And if you are trying to transport a number of young children and prams it can be a very stressful experience.

“The Strathfoyle community is entitled to the same provision of services be that play parks, sporting facilities and park lands as anywhere else in the city and district .

“It’s very important that the views of local residents are taken on board from the outset. Sinn Féin remains committed to ensuring that these services are delivered as quickly as possible,” the former mayor said.
