Cardiac motion on meeting agenda

Limavady councillors are due to debate a motion at tonight’s monthly council meeting, addressing Paediatric Congenital Cardiac Services

Sinn Fein councillor McGlinchey is due to bring forward the motion which states: “That this Council calls on the Minister of Health, Social Services and Public Safety to reassure parents that the future service model for Paediatric Congenital Cardiac Services will prioritise the needs of their children; and further calls on the Minister to explore fully an all-island solution with his counterpart Dr James Reilly.”

Also on tonight’s agenda is a ‘Resolution from Coleraine Borough Council’ which states: “Mindful of the devastating economic effect of the proposed closure of HMP Magilligan to this, and neighbouring boroughs, this Council calls on the Minister of Justice to rebuild the prison on its current site as soon as necessary funding becomes available.”

A campaign is underway to fight plans to close the prison by the Prison Officers’ Association which hopes to get 20,000 signatures on a petition to deliver to Justice Minister, David Ford next month.

The petition is also being made available to the public at Limavady Council offices.
