The Parents’ Association of St. Patrick’s Girls’ National School, Carndonagh, is holding a “Jigs & Reels” dancing extravaganza on Sunday, March 17th and Monday, March 18th in the Ballyliffin Lodge & Spa Hotel.
Based on the popular Strictly Come Dancing” format, but with a unique Irish dancing twist for St. Patrick’s weekend, this event is the Parents’ Association’s main fundraising project to help build the new Sports Hall / General Purpose Room for the school which will provide a valuable facility, not just for the school but the whole local community.
Both the building project and “Jigs & Reels” have already generated massive interest and enthusiasm locally and great support has already been received from the main sponsors of the event: Costcutters, Inishowen Oil Company, Inishowen Tours, Mc Hugh Bros, Open & Direct Commercial, Super Valu (Carndonagh), Village Kitchen and Wallace Doherty Engineers. Award winning Vixen Hair & Beauty Salon has kindly offered their services to contestants on both nights and local businesses have also sponsored each dance couple and will be acknowledged as the couples are introduced.
Hosted by Lee Gooch Promotions of Highland Radio’s Drive Time fame, the shows will be professional affairs, with choreography by local professional Irish dance teacher, Finvola Lyons, and specially designed costumes created for the 13 couples, who have been nominated by the local community and are currently rehearsing 4 nights weekly.
There will be two choreographed group dances and each couple will also perform two dance routines, with entertaining feedback from the judges and the audience voting for their favourite couple to be crowned “Jigs & Reels Champions 2013” each night.
Tickets (€10) will be on sale from next week in the school office (074-9374412) and if you don’t want to miss what promises to be the highlight of Inishowen’s social calendar this year, you are advised to secure your tickets early as demand is predicted to be very high indeed.
