Charged with possession of indecent photo of a child

A 27 year old man appeared at Derry Magistrate’s Court today charged with making and possessing an indecent picture of a child.

George Webster of 12 Crawford Square faces five charges in relation to an incident on June 13, 2012. They include making an indecent picture, possessing an indecent picture, distributing the picture, possession of “an extreme pornographic image” and “possession of an image of a child which was of such a nature as is prohibited by the Coroners and Justice Act 2009”.

The PSNI investigating officer told the court he was aware of the facts in the case and could connect the defendant to the charges. The officer told the court that a full evidence file was “almost ready” to be sent to the Public Prosecution Service.

Appearing before District Judge Barney McElholm, Webster was released on bail but ordered not to be intoxicated in a public place and not to have any unsupervised contact with any person under 18 years of age.

The case resumes on March 6.
