Child sex abuse accused has learning disability
A 60 year-old man with a learning disability has been charged with child sex abuse at Derry Magistrate’s Court.
John Joseph Murray, of 17A Cameron Street, Belfast faces seven charges of indecent assault against a female child and four of charges of committing acts of gross indecency towards a child in Derry.
During a preliminary enquiry, Murray said nothing in answer to the charges against him.
The court heard that the allegations formed an historic sex abuse case, with the charges relating to alleged incidents between 1981 and 1986.
A defence solicitor said his client attended the court with a social worker and that he had a learning disability.
The case was adjourned until March 11 for arraignment.
Murray was released on his own bail of £500.
