City’s new top cop

PSNI Chief Inspector Jon Burrows is to return to the helm as Derry’s police chief.

CI Burrows is to take up the post of Foyle Area Commander on an interim basis following the departure of CI Garry Eaton, who has become temporary Crime Manager for G District (which covers Derry, Strabane, Limavady and Magherafelt).

CI Burrows will take the reins at Strand Road station on Monday. He previously held the post on an interim basis in 2011. Chief Inspector Burrows said: “I am delighted with my new appointment and will try my best to continue to build on the excellent work and partnerships which already exist. Having spent nearly seven years’ service in this City, I am deeply committed to serving the people of Derry and to making our communities safer for everyone.”

After almost a year as Derry’ Area Commander, CI Garry Eaton said he was “always encouraged by the positive support for policing shown by so many people throughout the entire city”.

“We have had many successes over the past year and I want to thank my officers and staff for their hard work and commitment. I am confident that they will show the same level of support for my successor. I look forward to my new role as Crime Manager and investigating serious crime across the District.”
