Clean sweep for Waterside’s Andy
A cleaner at Waterside Health Centre has swept aside the competition to land a prestigious award.
Andy Haighway was named the British Institute of Cleaning Science Northern Ireland Cleaner of the Year during a presentation at Belfast City Hall on September 14.
“I am very pleased to have won this award,” Andy told the ‘Journal’ yesterday.
“I never thought when I went up to Belfast that I would be named the winner, because of the quality of all the other people in the competition.”
Andy, who is employed by Robinson Services and has worked at the Waterside Health Centre since it opened in 2007, says the award will not change his approach to work.
“Working here is more than just a job to me. I like coming in and keeping the place right for people; hopefully the standards I set myself make people feel a bit better when they have to come into the health centre.
“It’s nice to win an award and nice to be recognised but I don’t plan to let those standards slip.”
Siobhan Sweeny of Waterside Health Centre Management Committee says Andy’s recognition is well deserved.
“Cleaners are very important to any organisation but most definitely in the Health Service.
“Andy is very deserving of this award. He shows a tremendous level of commitment to the Health Centre and is meticulous in his standards.
“We are all very proud of his achievement.”
David Robinson, Managing Director of Robinson Services praised Andy’s “hard work, dedication and professionalism.” “We are planning to celebrate Andy’s achievement at our head office, Sarah Jane Robinson House, in Antrim, in the not too distant future, where we look forward to Andy sharing some of the secrets that make him such a worthy winner of this award.”
