Cops probe gun shot report

Police have confirmed they are investigating a report of an incident outside Dungiven at the weekend in which a shot was fired.

A PSNI spokesperson said yesterday: “Police are investigating reports of an incident in the Glenshane Road area of Dungiven on the evening of Saturday, 6 October, when a shot was reportedly fired into the air.”

The spokesperson added: “Enquiries are continuing.”

Sinn Fein councillor, Sean McGlinchey described the matter as “worrying”.

“After what happened the families of those who were involved in this incident, approached me and they were very upset and concerned, understandably if a gun was used,” he said. “The families asked me to intervene on their behalf to try and establish exactly what happened.”

Colr. McGlinchey said the matter was subsequently reported to the police.

He added; “As the PSNI are investigating this I can’t really say too much other than the families hope to verify exactly what took place as soon as possible and that they want the PSNI to deal with it.”
