Kieran Kelly’s enviable lotto win this week made it a hat trick for McCloskey’s Newsagents in Dungiven.

Before Wednesday’s win, McCloskey’s newsagents had sold two jackpot winning tickets - local woman Ann Logan won almost £500,000 in 2007 and in 2002 Limavady van driver Stephen Boyd bought a ticket there that netted him almost £1.5 million.

So, is it pure luck, or there something more to it?

Newsagent Barry McCloskey isn’t overly concerned at the exact science of it all; he’s simply happy to sell the winning tickets.

“I don’t know,” he said, laughing, “but it’s great news. I’ve known Kieran and grown up with him so it’s great news.”

Barry was in the shop when a hyper Kieran came in yesterday to check his numbers, and explained the local man was so nervous and excited he couldn’t even speak with Camelot.

“When Kieran came in to buy the ticket on Wednesday night there was a woman beside him. Kieran had bought five lucky dips and we were all laughing and I said, ‘this fella knows the craic, he knows how to speculate to accumulate!’ It’s fantastic news and we’re all delighted for him.”
